Do you have a fury beggar in your household? Do they beg for everything you' have, even that healthy, green salad? Would you like it to stop? If so, here's some tips to help change your dog's behavior from beggar to yoggie.
To start, do not give food to a begging dog, unless you like having a constant beggar around. By giving food it's a source of affection and it says that you approve which only reinforces the behavior. He is learning a new behavior which is that if he begs he will get some food in return. Be strong and don't give your dog any food when he begs. Then he will realize that this behavior is not rewarded and will not expect to be given any food.
Secondly, ignore your dog when he begs. This behavior is to seek out attention. You must show that this behavior does not get any reaction or results. This means not making any eye contact, not talking to your dog, and not even touching your dog.
And last but not least, make sure you are disciplining your dog consistently in this situation. What does this mean? It means not giving into your dog on any occasion. Your dog needs to learn that this behavior is not acceptable. Let them know who the pack leader is, otherwise they'll take over. Let them know who's in charge.
For your dog to change it will take some time, but know that eventually, your dog will get the message if it's loud and clear. Have faith in yourself and faith in your dog!
